Watch Don McCabe as he takes a
17-year-old dyslexic through his first lesson at the AVKO Educational
Research Foundation. You will be able to watch the young man's face as
he discovers that Mr. McCabe has "tricked him" into being able to read
and spell instantly the word malicious!
But it's not trickery. It's based on
solid educational principles. McCabe, a dyslexic himself, has
discovered that it is the ends of "big" words that determine how the
beginnings are pronounced and that it is the endings of words that often
use different, albeit consistent, phonic patterns. Isn't that nice.
But notice, notice is not
not ice!
This is a free video that you may
request.
Our video comes in several formats:
- VHS: may be played on any VHS VCR
- MPEG and RealMedia Video CD: may be played on
your computer
- Streaming Video / Download from Site: play it
now! Just click on the picture!
We do, however, request that you
return the VHS as promptly as possible. We have numerous requests from
homeschooling families, teachers, counselors, therapists, and other
educators who would like to see what the AVKO method is all about. More
important than us receiving the video back promptly is you being able to
see the video as many times as possible and showing it to as many people
as you think could benefit from it. To return it, please see our
contact information. We have found that the "Media Mail" option at the
Post Office is the cheapest way to send the videos. Just ask your
friendly postal worker and they will be happy to help you out with the
cheapest rates.
The Video CDs are for people who are
comfortable using a computer (or knows someone who is), doesn't mind
watching a 27:31 minute movie on a computer, or may wish to show the
video at a conference where getting AV equipment may be cumbersome. The
free video is on the CD in two formats: RealMedia (.rm) and MPEG
(.mpg). These are both standard formats and may be played using many
major media programs. We have included RealPlayer 10 on the CD for your
own ease.
You may wish to download the video
files yourself for your own purposes or expediency. This may be done by
using the following links. Clicking them should bring up a dialog box
asking you how and where you would like to download the file, or if you
wish to open it. Because of their nature, they are rather sizeable
files and may take a substantial amount of time on a dial-up
connection. We recommend a high-speed or LAN connection for downloading
these files.
If your browser is compatible, you
may click the picture above to start the MPEG video streaming. The
video will load automatically and play without having to download the
whole file onto your computer. Stream the
RealMedia version of the
video. You may copy the link locations into your already open
RealPlayer and play the videos that way as well:
